The Founder of CHESED Homeless Prevention & Residential Center: Kevin Coachman


Kevin Dobie Coachman is a remarkable individual who has overcome significant challenges to become a renowned activist and community leader. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Kevin's life took an unexpected turn when he was shot six times during a violent carjacking, resulting in his loss of sight. * Despite this adversity Kevin Dobie Coachman went on and is the founder and director of the 501(c)3 CHESED Homeless Prevention and Residential Center, which provides support and resources to the homeless and those at risk of homelessness. The organization offers a range of services, including emergency shelter, transitional housing, job training, and education programs, to help individuals and families get back on their feet. Despite being blind, Kevin has a big vision. Kevin has become a remarkable philanthropist and community leader, inspiring others to overcome adversity and work towards a better future through his work.


As a young man, Kevin played football in his high school years and continued through his time at Indiana State University. Kevin went on to play professionally in Canada for the Canadian Football League after college. His experience playing at a high level has given him a unique perspective on the power of sports to transform lives and communities.

Today, Kevin is using his expertise and influence to make a positive impact in the lives of young people through his work with the Southland Raging Bull Arena pro football team and other initiatives in the Chicagoland area. As co-owner of the Southland Raging Bull Arena Pro Football Team, Coachman provides opportunities for young men between the ages of 18 and up to showcase their football skills and pursue their dreams of playing at the professional level. He believes that football can be a positive influence in the lives of young men, teaching them valuable lessons about teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.


In addition to his work at the CHESED Homeless Prevention and Residential Center, Kevin Dobie Coachman also engages in street ministries and pop-up food pantries, and clothing giveaways. He is committed to reaching out to those in need and providing them with practical assistance and support. By doing so, Kevin has become a pillar of the community, demonstrating the importance of serving others and working towards a better future for all.
