The Hancock Building is an angular and sturdy building. A building worthy of the city of broad shoulders. The x-braced exterior is one of the engineering techniques that allowed designers to reach record heights. Making it part of the building’s “skin” left more room for the inside floorplan. Upon completion in 1969 it was the second tallest building in the world. It also boast the third highest residence in the world behind Burj Khalifa in Dubai and fellow Chicago skyscraper, The Trump Tower. The elevators to the observation deck are said to be the fastest in North America, reaching the 95th in 38 seconds. They have a top speed of 20 mph.
