Everything ensconced in gold. A peregrine Falcon soaring over the 900 North Michigan towers. As Peregrine falcons are the fastest clocked bird in the world, it is a wonder how John Harrison snapped this photo in such clarity. National Geographic measured the highest speed of 242 mph. The Peregrine falcon can be found on every continent except Antarctica. They are an example of a successful urban wildlife range due to the abundance of prey (pigeons and ducks) and the ability to nest in high buildings. Being majestic and stealthy only helps.
There’s so much beauty to be found in the natural world we can sometimes forget the drama of planes dancing in flight or the diver poised in mid-air. These fascinating photographs capture all that, and more.
