The Ayutthaya Buddha head growing amongst the roots of the banyan tree is an iconic image of Thailand. There are many theories on how it became intertwined within the roots. Did a thief hide it there in the early 1900s to never come back and retrieve it? Was it left to rot after the wars of the late 1700s only to be found in the 1950s? Either way, it is a powerful place to take in.
